Riverina Water Digital Pilot Kicks Off
Riverina Water begins its digital metering journey with a pilot designed to demonstrate practical value, minimise risk and leverage existing infrastructure.

We are excited to share that a digital water metering pilot has officially commenced with Riverina Water, leveraging Riverina’s existing Temetra platform to enable a measured, low-risk and cost-effective step into digital metering.
From the outset, the focus has been on ensuring the pilot is aligned to clear operational outcomes. The program began with benefits realisation planning, helping define what success should look like before the final device mix is locked in. This keeps the pilot grounded in practical value and ensures that technology decisions remain connected to the benefits Riverina wants to achieve.
The pilot also demonstrates an important message for utilities already operating Temetra: there can be a practical pathway into digital metering by leveraging existing investments and taking an incremental approach.
A key part of the pilot is the deployment of the Itron wSource device, with Itron continuing to play an important role in supporting Temetra customers on their digital journey.
Riverina’s own words capture the opportunity well:
“Now that we’re getting movement with the trial, we’re really excited to start learning, seeing and understanding the data, realising benefits etc and how this can help guide and shape what we do into the future.”
Over the coming months, we will share updates throughout the journey, including pilot progress, lessons learned, and practical insights for councils and utilities exploring similar approaches.
